Title: Let us imagine / series ‘A heart full of wonder’ Size: 90 x 90 x 2 cm | 35.4 x 35.4 x 0.8 in Sides: light grey Mediums: Acrylic on canvas, graphite, pierre noir crayon, pastels, wax crayons Finish: varnished Signature: Front and back, also signed Certificate of Authenticity Frame: Unframed but ready to hang The paintings in this series are dotted with elements of wonder and play inviting the viewer in. They recall the voice of children marveling at nature and discovering life as divine. Remembering our childhood and embracing the mystery of life can bring back a sense of wonder for the world. From time to time, especially in challenging times, we forget what we mean when we say "playfulness." We forget that there is such a thing. We forget that we are capable of being playful. Thinking of the amazement a kid experiences when blowing bubbles and seeing the iridescent circles they produce or when finding a glittering stone on a walk. It’s like soaking your soul in a healing bath. This painting 'Let us imagine' invokes curiosity and reminds the viewer of what it was like to see the world through the eyes of a child. The dark shapes consisting of transparent layers of browns and greens contrast beautifully with the muted turquoise, pinks and greys.

Linda Coppens is a Belgian contemporary abstract painter. From an early age she demonstrated an innate artistic talent but could not pursue an art education at that time, instead she earned a Master in Psychology. But her interest in art remained and about twenty years later she pursued an art education at the Academy of Visual Arts in Liedekerke, Belgium. In 2020, she moved to Torrevieja, Spain, where she currently resides. In her colourful paintings she mobilizes colour, texture and gestural mark making as a structure for the creation of abstract compositions to evoke a sense of emotional balance in the viewer. Linda Coppens has exhibited extensively in Belgium, US, France and Luxembourg. Her art is found in many private collections worldwide. Using a mix of mediums that includes acrylic paint, oil and cold wax, I layer my mediums using non-traditional tools and techniques. My inspirations include the unexpected feelings and thoughts generated by poetry; the weather worn surfaces of derelict urban buildings; and the vibrant and bountiful visual world of nature. In order to evoke the various realms of human experience that inspire me, I surrender to process, allowing my paintings to manifest slowly according to their own rhythm and internal logic rather than planning my compositions in advance. Time is also an essential element in my work, as the numerous layers of paint can be read as records of the history of their own making.
