‘’Who’s That Gees’a? Here’s another piece added to my ongoing ‘Aviary’ series. It took me quite a while to accomplish, especially when changing plans by going into more detail than I set out to do. I couldn’t resist and wanted to try to keep a good standard of this series. I find birds fascinating through their colour, skills, beauty and also behaviour amongst other things. Quite similar to human attributes with heroes and villains or other attitudes. I use these diverse, lovely creatures as personifications depicting mannerisms, character and the rest, usually with a little humour. May you get this one! With ‘Who’s That Gees’a?’ I am using the informal word ‘Geezer’ audibly in a cockney (Southern English) accent as ‘Gees’a’ with geezer meaning a bloke or a man. Not exactly posh, but I hope you get the gist. So the title, like the painting is ambiguous, being these are common geese in a nice plumage. However, common as they may be, they can deserve a place in the art world and be a part of it, with art having become more accessible, with different strata, but I won’t say classless. Anything questionable in whosever life can initiate art creation, as curiosity or a demand is a great instigator. Art then is continuously prevalent and can be something beautiful to look at, as well as to get you to think. Here are these geese being looked at, perhaps probed and in turn, they will be looking back at the viewer asking ‘Who’s That Gees’a?’ artistically of course, albeit from a different side. It is a reciprocal question, don’t you think? As for the painting, it is done in oil on a gallery wrapped stretched canvas, with all the sides also neatly painted in a light khaki brown. For the image of these geese, I based them mainly on the ‘Greylag Goose’ and composed them into this misty almost mysterious scenery.

Jason is a painter and illustrator of various styles and different media for different ends. Principally a surrealistic and abstract artist, he has a fondness for satire and caricature, with a hint of humour fantasy and the whimsical. Nevertheless, there is a realistic and a sober aspect to some of his work too. His different genres of works are ongoing series which are added to from time to time, whether it is his Aviary, Abstract, Allegoric or any other style he employs. World events, social affairs and politics draw his attention, but he can be inspired by everything and anything seen, heard or felt. His expression can be direct or ambiguous. What is prevalent throughout his work is light, movement and flow, hardly any black is employed, leaning towards enlightenment.
