Between the Lines- a visual interpretation in seven pieces. Interpreting seven quotes of Danish philosopher Søren Kierkegaard, Ingrid Bugge created a series of underwater photographs looking into Joy, Depression, What is a Poet, Anxiety, In a Quiet Despair, A hidden Inwardness, and Where is Christ Present. These are emotional states, which we are all familiar with. The movement of five dancers underwater is recorded through Bugge´s camera, digitally added to Søren Kierkegaard´s original handwritings. Under water, or perhaps under the surface, comes to represent this emotional state- at times clouded by darkness and uncertainty- much like being underwater. Yet- under water may also represent the depths of one's soul, a place one can simply dive into. A part of the series "Kierkegaard - Between The Lines" edition 3 Pigment print on Hanemühle acid-free cotton, 330 g. Various Sizes Available.

Ingrid Bugge is a multi-media artist based in Copenhagen, Denmark, working primarily in fields of photography, video and installation. Ingrid Bugge uses her camera as a tool of research. Since 2006 she has been testing the boundaries of intimacy and human knowledge, of nature and of emotion. Often focused on the body, Bugge sets out to explore themes of sensuality, movement, passion and authenticity, conveying a dream-like sense of ecstacy and weightlessness. Yet, rather than simply tracing reality, Ingrid Bugge interprets and translates it. Taking from the masters of renaissance, her examination of reality transcends through her classically inspired, digitally edited collages, creating a unique process of work from the studio or stage, to a screen and over to a canvas print. A visual silver lining which runs through Bugge´s work is the human body, which has been a subject of research for artists since the dawn of art. Yet, in her unique way, Bugge presents a new take on it. Like the anatomist-artists of the renaissance, Ingrid Bugge explores the physicality of the human body, but in order to through it reveal a wider, deeper thought.
