ABOUT THE ARTWORK

A series of works I made in 2014, limited editions of 25. The technique used is inspired by the dot paintings of Damian Hirst and the pop sensibilities of the Ed Hardy machine; while the content draws inspiration from the increasing use of unmanned aerial vehicles in our society. The text on each borrows phrases from popular culture and replaces one important word with "drone" or "drones", creating a new phrase for a new societal climate. These are small framed pieces with backgrounds of spray-painted phrases in Olde English font. Phrases available are "Drone as Fuck", "Drones Over Bitches", "Drone Pride", and "Drone Life". The foreground consists of small colorful plastic planes, mounted on steel rods, to create depth and an optical illusion of movement. Different frames/colors along with different plane patterns are available. Hanging hardware is included, pieces are ready to go!

Dominic is best known for his room-filling installations and repetitive cast objects that combine to create an industrial mass-produced sensibility to his sculpture. His current body of work is a critical response to the disproportionate role of the Military Industrial Complex in society. His practice has been heavily influenced by time spent in the aerospace industry where he was responsible for producing fabrication and assembly drawings for satellites, military aircraft, and mobile artillery units. He is a native of Chicago Illinois and holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign and a Master of Fine Arts from the Herron School of Art and Design in Indianapolis. Dominic has exhibited in group and solo exhibitions across the United States.
