About Bogdan Zareba

I think that it’s a job of a painter to invent new ways for explorations in painting.
It’s impossible to describe rationally a creative process of any painting, there are too many stages,
mixed, irrational, chaotic.
Some painters in their memories says that they have been often motivated to paint new images
to create painting they have been dreaming for but were unable to find in reality,
so they had to create them themselves, it still exists in 2018
Currently I’m working on.
1° research on light
2° interactions between cultures
3° mountains
4° inventing meeting of painters
5° studies of classic paintings
In the future I’d like to imagine Vinci meeting Einstein.
I'm signing with Stanislas BZ (my true second name)
My e-mail are : or

1° research on light
Every 50years might be discovered new methodologies of interactions with other lights.
Here the lights are projected behind windows and are moving through sunflowers,
creating interesting volumes, to construct new types of spaces.
Here : black is a color, void is a color, black is a light, void is a light.
2° interactions between cultures - In my work : N°3 “Thai landscape by Cezanne-Twombly”
21st centaury offers us all method of communication with other cultures, even 20 000km away.
I’ve asked myself : What might be Thai landscape influenced by European painting with our notions
of space, where the interactions of colors are so different.
When Thai painting stop being Thai and becomes European ?
Is it Thai for Thai national or only for European nationals ?
3° mountains - In my work : N°7 “Mountain in the evening with Matisse in my mind”.
A painter has to analyze the Nature and transform it in a painting making it vibrate and resonate..
Mountains are one of best element in Nature for painters as proved by Cezanne and Balthus.
I’ve been always impressed by scientists explaining mountains as result of the encounters of very
powerful forces of Nature.
You are crushed by the infinity of space and difference of scale human-mountain.
Cezanne has been very good in representing these hidden forces of Nature which are behind
each pattern of his colors.
4° inventing meeting of painters
I think that it’s very important to imagine painters of different epoch meeting.
You make abstraction of time and only pure painting is left, universal.
Comparing different epoch of painting make it easier to us to find what is universal in our time.
In my work : N°2 Cezanne influences Twombly - Construction of colours
I’d like to explore the mutual influences of Cezanne and Twombly if they had met.
It’s an opportunity to explore the construction of spaces like Cezanne and the construction of
color like Twombly.
5° studies of classic paintings
It’s possible to reinterpret classic paintings according to 21st centaury thinking.
In my work : N°36 Purple-black pine and clouds I’ve been inspired by El Greco freedom of colors
El Greco originality of colours and lights were invisible at his time.
To discover quality of El Greco you have to wait until Cezanne, cubism and Picasso saying
how much he had been inspired by El Greco
Modernity has brought us more freedom of colors and it has started with El Greco.
I’m looking for volcanic type mixture of colors able to speak to everybody.
In the future I’d like to imagine Vinci meeting Einstein
Vinci as young boy has spent years walking and exploring the Nature.
His studies of the Nature are probable one of the sources of the quality in his paintings,
so above that of other painters of his epoch.
Einstein in the beginning has studied light and said : “I’d like to understand what is light”.
Einstein in the end of his life has said “I still don’t understand what is really light”.
More Einstein studied the profound nature of light more complicated it was appearing into him.

At age of 13 years - discovery of F.Bacon Pope’s painting. (real shock you remember forever)
At age of 18 years - discovery of F.Bacon interpretation of Van Gogh and his others paintings

I’m a self-trained painter, as were : F.Bacon, Picasso, J.Johns, Balthus
I’ve used F.Bacon method of try and errors.

I’ve done a lot of theoretical studies. (really thousands hours)

Study of A.Malraux books “Les voix du silence” and others
Study of David Sylvester interviews with F.Bacon
Study of books : by Rauschenberg, J.Johns, Kooning, Balthus
speaking about their painting technique and their evolution in painting
Study and the analysis of the images from Tarkowsky films and others.

Study of Velasquez, Rembrandt, F.Bacon, Balthus, Cezanne, Twombly, Rauschenberg and
others masters paintings.

Malraux is for me the most important writer ever on the art and on the creative process.

Malraux is the only one to describe in details in his books:
more then 30 stages of the creative process before a painter is able to master his art

It’s not a hazard that even the masters like Rembrandt, Cezanne, Monet, Rothko had to
meditate about 20 years before being able to express the essence of their art.
It’s impossible to create a painting which is able to last more then 50 years
if a painter hasn’t been experimenting during at last 10 years.

Malraux says that all masterpieces have always been born from the
CONFRONTATION with the REALITY of each epoch.
Picasso or Duchamp were in constant confrontation with the 20 centaury reality not
in reproduction of the reality.

Each epoch defines its own reality in function of its consciousness and prejudices.

I think that we are living in a time of new emerging values which
have not been yet represented in the painting and
that during next 10 years young painters will revolutionize our painting to express them.
