Lia Steele is a photographic artist based in Naarm (Melbourne), Australia. She received her Bachelor of Arts (Photography) degree from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in 2009 and in 2011 earned a Bachelor of Fine Art (Honours) degree at the Victorian College of the Arts. Her artwork is held in international and local collections and she has held three solo exhibitions as well as participating in several group exhibitions.
Lia Steele's art practice explores themes of youth, aging, beauty, death and the ideal, and explores cultural practices such as documentation of life and the search for paradise on earth. Her interests are in the balance between nature and culture and a human relationship with nature.
Her debut publication, Eden, is available in Australia at the Centre for Contemporary Photography bookstore, National Portrait Gallery, and Midland Atelier. The book can be viewed in Europe at the Jeu de Paume in Paris and Foam Fotografie Museum in Amsterdam. The books are signed by the artist and editioned.
