ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Women =, their life, their beauty, their struggle, is always an inspiration to create images reflecting this. And I hope that the viewer can identify with the woman in this collage from events in her life. One of the silhouettes is metal (try to find out which one) being duplicated in paper - and those paper cut-outs allow the women to see the world around them. Becoming an artist I thought meant to create the same type of art all the time. But I found out quickly this not true - engaging in different medias is a liberating way of looking at the world .This freedom allows my feelings, reactions, and desires to guide my work. It makes it possible to let my imagination flow in 3 different directions. - Mixed Media - is a wonderful way of recreating and recycling the past. I use pieces like old, blood stained barn boards, railroad nails, pieces of tree bark or pine cones, or an antique silver spoon no longer needed to be part of an afternoon tea ceremony, or a piece French embroidery, or a piece of leather from an Egyptian saddlebag -the choices are endless - the result is always a surprise. - Collage - it can be a nod to the past or a greeting to an abstract new world. I love the endless possibilities it offers to tell a story: a story of the many facets of life. Collages can bring back memories, which touch the soul or give inspiration to a new world - Paintings - During the many month of lockdown and solitude I found a way not to feel so isolated. I started to paint faces. Sometimes they were happy faces, and sometimes they reflected my frustration about our situation. When I started I never had an idea what they should look like or even know if it would be a woman or man. I just let my emotions lead the brush. And the result is My Family of Funny Faces
