Detroit native Julie Lipa's works are of historical journalism from Mid-century America. Whether it's stories inspired by editorials, published social norms, vintage advertising or comic books, she examines the events of the past through the prism of time making it clear that we've still got a long way to go. Her Appliance Series focal points are repurposed artifacts like vintage TVs and radios that create 3D mid-century modern, mixed media works of art that explore provocative subjects such as motherhood, atomic bombs and flying the friendly skies. Her Comic Book Series are culled from a library of over 20,000 public domain panels, titles and narritives to create fresh stories that include topics that weren't permissible in mid-century America.
