I was startled when a woman rode by, and a cougar was staring me down from the back of her horse. Totems were important in Native American culture. The Cougar is the totem of assertiveness and restraint. The eagle represents honesty, strength, courage, wisdom, and freedom. It is the lead spirit animal. This lends power to all other totems. Riding with a cougar totem is believed to enable a successful outcome to any given situation, especially with an eagle overhead. I like to work with mixed media and encaustic to give texture to my photographs. The use of gold leaf for the sun gives it the intensity it needs.
