Collage artist Karin Gibson is based in Pretoria, South Africa. She uses thickly mono- and screen printed paper to produce her layered work portraying the natural world or abstract shapes. The mono prints contain multiple layers of textures created by various mark making techniques executed in oil based mediums. She studied and taught Textile design until 2019 when she became a full time artist. Karin has exhibited locally and nationally in Fibre Art and screen printed Textiles. Influenced by her background in textile design she finds inspiration in form, pattern, colour, texture, expressive line work and mark making. She uses paper collage as a medium because it enables her to juxta position and layer texture and subtle colour surfaces to create which would be impossible to achieve with for example, oil and brushes.
