This piece is a contemporary commentary on China's change to state capitalism and the world economy, represented by Walmart, who has penetrated the Chinese market by figuratively breeching the Great Wall. The piece is a wall hanging with collage additions: Mao branded to an cellphone held aloft my communists to which is added a poem by myself and the Great Wall hand colored with pencil. (Poem appended below) I hope the viewer finds the altered hanging a little humorous as well as thought provoking. I am interested in taking old and popular art forms and altering them to new ideas. GRAND OPENING Giant Walmart scaled the wandering Great Wall without arrows, swords, or bullets, invaded the Han, Ming, Song cities. Farmers rushed to factories. The Red Guard faded. Their children became capitalists selling cell phones, electronic gadgets, shoes, every imaginable thing to The Running Dogs, while distant sentinel’s section the stepped path of picturing tourist hordes, unaware the cotton mist on a distant hill hides boulders spelling the omnipresent name. Is he to be forgotten here at the Middle Kingdom’s edge, founding father of the Leap, poet Mao Zedong (毛澤東) ?
