ABOUT THE ARTWORK

HOME FROM INDIA is collage confection from Matthew Rose. It is a printed book based on a series of collages. It is available via $24. It is a "story" about loss and disconnection, the valiant attempts to gain purchase on truth and the inevitable slippage of all things. Sad, exuberant, the work consists of a portfolio of 24 collage works, riddled with French and English clues that touch upon everything from the freedom of flight of mouches (flies) and the strange pleasures of rabbits, the odd joys of planting cut flowers and lastly, the absurd notions of prizes, dreams, lotteries and bells tolling for us all, whether we hear (and/or) heed them or not. HOME FROM INDIA is an art work/artist book from Matthew Rose. P.S. Anyone wishing an signed and dated book plate, I am happy to mail you one for free. MATTHEW ROSE lives and works in Paris, France. Known widely for his collage works and wall-to-wall, ceiling-to-floor installations, he graduated from Brown University (1981) with a degree in Semiotics/Linguistics. Influenced by Americans Ray Johnson, Jasper Johns, Joseph Cornell and a handful of French surrealists, Rose works late hours ripping apart paper and bits of text to remake contemporary life into a specific, yet unbound book, what the artist calls his “theory of everything.” "Most of my work involves collage; I cut and paste in all flavors. But I draw, paint, sculpt, find, assemble and put together words as well. I'm always working, I never close." CURRENTLY: Published Coronaville. A graphic novella about the Trump Pandemic.
