ABOUT THE ARTWORK

collage; cibachrome print, cyanotype prints, silica, copper, iron saw blade Holy Land I combines cyanotypes (sun prints), dye destruction prints (cibachromes), magic lantern slide, silica, copper, iron saw blade, and wax. A lot of the more common concerns explored in my work are here; a comparison of real and imagined geographical space – mythological heaven, the sacred heart, the stars and galaxies. Christ’s heart, wound and blood, are like magic touch stones and this is contrasted with a more scientific reality. In other images from the series, stars and galaxies are overlaid with images of Christ’s wound. Sections are taken from early northern Renaissance paintings, chosen for the artist’s photo-realist dedication to a subjective image of a mythic character. The layering and possible associations which occur are serendipitous but with carefully controlled boundaries. This work is concerned with the seemingly disparate image or object and concurrent with this is the more universal image This work continues my interest in electricity and conductivity. The affinity of the metals included here for oxygen forms the basis of our means of survival; iron used on land and similarly copper used by some marine life in the sea. Iron as ferrous haem in the blood has the capacity to change its molecular shape to anchor large quantities of oxygen. This is delivered to the tissues in our body in a never ending flow. The heart is the machine that never stops, enabling this cyclic flow to continue.

SHIPPING AND RETURNS
Delivery Time:

Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

I photograph still life/assemblage/projection set ups in the studio which utilize light, silhouette, and transparency. I often make short films which combine the still with the moving image. The resulting films or still imagery are usually displayed as installations in the UK and abroad. Ideas behind the work are drawn from the contrasting fields of science and nature and religious and other mythical writings and folk tales. Current inspiration is Joseph Campbell's book 'Inner Reaches of Outer Space'.
