About the Artist

Sérgio Lopes

Brazil

Sérgio Lopes, aka “Slop” referring for his initials S.Lopes, was initially an audio visual artist inserted in the artistic universe by developing sound tracks for professionals in São Paulo-Brazil, such as Herbert Baglione and Alexandre Sesper.

In 2010 he was invited by William Baglione to join the legendary São Paulo based art group called “Famiglia Baglione”. Since then, Slop started to follow the creative process of the group closely, especially the collage technique arising from Alexandre Sespes’ and Walter Nomura’s creations.

At this point there was a stronger identification and incentive to go beyond his initial aspirations and create his own artworks.

After the experience as an electronic music artist in Germany, where a great part of his work was released, Slop sees his collage artworks gain more visibility, especially in the Berlin Art Week of 2012.

Only 3 years later the production of his artwork became more mature, allowing him to display his artworks in the Outprint exhibit, at Recorte gallery.

In his work, Slop sets the standards of a “out of the box” thinking. Such characteristic is so clear that it can be seen as the greatest co-relation between his art and music.

“The anti-virtuosity and multiplication of signs in the artworks seek an aesthetic order, but not before leaving a trace of chaos.”
