Midnight Soiree Collage

My second work of the year. I found this piece of glass on the street in Brooklyn (I prioritize using reclaimed, upcycled, and found object materials in my work) and in working with the acrylic paint I first imagined the moon and swirling becoming a central part of the work. Diverging from this, I found variation and contrast in the white brush strokes, using the side of the paintbrush. The iridescent blue varnish was last to go in, over top of some areas I pulled away with the edge of my plastic cap to a thermometer, leaving the glass transparent again. This piece was about playing in the accidents and finding repetition. I was thinking about smaller moments within the painting, knowing there can often be a painting within a painting. Looking more closely at it, you can get lost. From a distance, or perhaps with light shining through or behind it, I was reminded of stain glass windows, but this piece is much more nascent of a dark, quiet, birth and a shaky but vibrational beginning! give cheers! bonne nuit mon amour!
