Maria Spyraki aka Spy_lab was born in Athens, Greece in 1977. She studied architecture in London but her love for arts won her heart. She is a self-taught contemporary visual artist living and working in Athens, with a wide range of work in painting and sculpture. She believes that art is social, belongs to everyone, that’s why graffiti is her favorite expression. Spray as a medium gives her freedom, fluidity and the sense of endless. Her art could be considered diagrammatic and linear, while she always encapsulates symbols from our everyday life that create a background of meanings and a foreground of feelings. Her sculptures are objects with multi level surfaces such as plexiglass, pvc, wood combined with resin symbols ( hearts, thunders, stars, fire extinguishers) in repetition, playing with transparency and shadows. Her favorite study is robots and how their qualities are integrated in the life of the contemporary man / woman.
