About The Artwork

This work is a mixed media collage created on wood. It is framed, unglazed, in a black wooden frame.  The theme is city scape. It is an expression of modern city living, playing on abstract concepts of the modern office life. This work was inspired by, and includes imagery from an earlier installation piece that considered themes of identity, particularly focussed on societal norms and the "Rat Race".

I am always happy to answer any questions about the work I create. I do try to put descriptions for each work to give a better understanding of what I am aiming for with each work. However I know that for myself, looking at other peoples work sometimes there are unanswered questions - so feel free to get in touch via Facebook or Instagram. I was always drawn to artistic practice and I have been lucky enough to enjoy education in both architecture and photography which heavily influences my work. I now have a day job as a dentist and spend the rest of my time exploring themes of place, relationship and identity within my artistic work, I sometimes re-appropriate image or text or purely base the work on the texture or colour of the material itself. I am inspired by the day to day, often mulling over an idea for many months before committing to it. After which the work tends to ‘grow’ itself. A type of exploratory development of material and concept intertwined. My work is inspired by architecture, landscape and, directly or indirectly, by human presence. Observations of human nature, and human relationships inform the detail. I aim to evoke emotion or interest in a viewer, with each new glance at work giving new dimensions, interpretations and observations. I play with scale, offering a glimpse into a new surreal, modern and fantasy world. I am attempting to capture the essence of the materials, the location or the emotions surrounding the theme. I work mostly in oils or acrylics on board or canvas, but also explore photography, new media and sculpture. My painting style is often abstract with obvious influences from cubism.
