For this series I was inspired by the many colors and shapes of the forest. I used a stable solvent to paint rotogravure-printed paper with irregular patterning, which I then collaged. A thin layer of beeswax enhances the color. Happy mistakes in nature have shaped our wonderfully diverse planet. Harnessing the idea of a mistake in painting can likewise cause an unpredictable but controlled outcome.

Brigette is a tech-obsessed experiential designer and artist living in Chicago, with a Masters in Painting from SAIC. She received her Master of Architecture from Columbia University's GSAPP in 2009, and began teaching there upon graduation. Her interest in the intersection of technology, architecture, art, urban planning and sustainability is guided by her view that design and logic are one and the same. She has created interactive installations for many venues, including Google, Columbia University, and the NYC Department of Health. Her work is inspired by the often ruled but at times chaotic organization of natural and urban landscapes. She recently built a CNC router to incorporate into her encaustic paintings. She has developed her practice over the past six years with massive amounts of experimentation, and many pounds of wax. She is an ardent recycler and have been refusing plastic bags since long before the practice became fashionable.
