Art Description

Collage: Plastic and thread on Plastic and Soft (Yarn, Cotton, Fabric).

This piece is inspired by New York City: small alleyways, huge avenues, cracked pavement, glass skyscrapers, brick storefronts, vibrant graffiti, grand bridges and rusting fire escapes. The Triboro Bridge is a fixture of the NYC maze of roads and is one of the gateways into the city.

I enjoy using recycled materials in my artwork. I strive to make them all look like treasures, regardless of their origin. They must be undetectable in my work, transformed into something sophisticated and beautiful.

This piece is constructed from plastic packaging materials, which are machine stitched with outlines of NYC skyscrapers. The Triboro is constructed from plastic shopping bags and netting, and is extensively machine embroidered with details. The artwork is stitched onto an aluminum mesh stretched over wood and aluminum stretcher bars. The silvery mesh provides just the right outline to the piece.
