About The Artwork

Seven years sailing the Atlantic brought me into intimate contact with creatures of the sea. They educated, entertained, amazed, and fed me. The amount of plastic waste in our oceans quickly approaches the mass or weight of all those creatures put together. I once freed a one ton sea turtle from a plastic bag around its neck choking it. It swam around my boat for an hour singing to me. Hundreds of thousands of birds die with bellies full of plastic. Pods of whales beach themselves because their digestive tracts are blocked by plastics. When I found the picture of the baby seal trapped in a plastic potato sack I cried for twenty minutes before realizing the photographer must have cut it free. What can I do about this travesty? All I could do was to make this art to spread awareness. Refuse plastic bagging!

Former magazine editor, photographer, designer in Austin, Philadelphia, Paris, Mexico City, Washington DC. World traveler with deep focus in Mexico. Seven years open ocean, Atlantic. Forty-eight years attempting to make art. Mountaintop in the Ozarks, current residence and studio. Amazed and delighted to be alive and aware on a rock with a breathable atmosphere located at the edge of nowhere. A friend to all dogs. Absolutely passionate about creating art which amuses, fascinates, enlightens, disturbs, or in some way shares the awe I feel about the miracle of life and the wonder of our world. My art includes a non-traditional approach to collage, studies in visual rhythm, portraiture, photography often manipulated, satire and protest, abstracts, non-representational pieces exploring form, color, shadow and mystery, playful reinterpretations of the masters, posters via commissions, watercolors and sketches, and eye candy just for fun. Everything is processed digitally to arrive at the final work. Art is a verb!
