Ola Rondiak lives and works between Kyiv, Ukraine and New York City. Her inspiration stems from her parents emigrating from Ukraine to America after WWII, her grandmother's imprisonment in a soviet gulag, as well as her personal experience of living 23 years in Kyiv, Ukraine. While living in Ukraine and raising three children, Rondiak experienced two revolutions. Her professional background as a psychotherapist helps her to experience her artistic expression through a subconscious process. Her contemporary portraits of women have become a metaphor for Ukraine and symbolize their determined and indomitable spirit. Through the use of collage Rondiak is able to layer her personal & cultural history while delving into deep emotions to explore and reveal the truth.

Ukraine
Ola Rondiak grew up in Ohio in a Ukrainian family. Her paintings stem from her family’s experiences living in Ukraine, the events of WWII, Stalin’s Iron Curtain, the Orange Revolution, and the Revolution of Dignity. The Orange Revolution in the fall of 2004, signaled the emergence of a new civic movement--a political resistance group, people from all walks of life, that banded together to forge a red light on the ruling class’ fraudulent election processes. Abrasive weather notwithstanding, Ukrainians staged nationwide nonviolent protests now known as the Orange Revolution, as well as the Revolution of Dignity in 2013. These events shaped Rondiak’s worldview; emotional experiences began to surface in her paintings, family history intertwines with Ukrainian history and tradition.
