ARTIST STATEMENT Who do I want to be in the world? Already as a – very pensive – child I asked myself this question again and again. And even if we think that we often don’t have the possibility in everyday life, I think we can always influence the world in and around us. Artists who have influenced me or who I really admire are representatives of neo-expressionism like Jean-Michel Basquiat or pop and street artists like Keith Haring or Andy Warhol. Whether the objects are Mickey Mouse, Marilyn Monroe, comic or simple abstract forms: the zeitgeist of this generation of artists still inspires me. From a contemporary point of view, Banksy is and remains a source of inspiration to me. I love working with color – the brighter the better, but I also need the quiet elegance of black and white compositions in my work now and then. Variety: life comes and goes in waves. I prefer large canvases over small ones. In my work I choose a wide variety of media: acrylic, spray paint, pastels, markers. I like to experiment with different techniques and, in addition to elements of popular culture, which can be found again and again in my works, I am primarily inspired by the beauty and magnificence of nature. Icons of contemporary popular culture such as stormtroopers are always central to my work. I like to put them in an absurd or socially critical context; the latter can often only be determined by carefully examining all the details of the work. In my paintings I also process personal experiences and travelling to the most diverse places in this wonderful world are a great source of inspiration. Thus, who do I want to be in the world? I want to paint what makes eyes, hearts and souls shine. Creating canvases that convey what most of us are looking for: joy, energy, faith and zest for life.
