ABOUT THE ARTWORK

China Camp is a historic 1800's fishing village located in Marin County, California. There were upwards of 500 inhabitants. The main bounty was shrimp which was dried and exported to China. It is one of my favorite places to wander.

Wendy was born in 1955 and grew up in Laguna Beach, California. Much of her childhood time was spent at the beach. "As a little girl my first string of words was “that’s something else". Which is exactly how my mind works and what I do with my art. I see something and decide it would look better if it was “something else”. I admit it is somewhat of an obsession. For example, when simply walking down the street my imagination is compelled to remove walls, changes trim, repaint buildings, or shift the roofline. And sometimes it becomes apparent that the best option is to simply demolish and begin anew. I make it “something else.” That’s my art form. "I remember in grade school; the teachers would startle me out of my daydreams, which was really disturbing because I was flying, being a prima ballerina, doing acrobatics at the Olympics or under a circus tent. They told me daydreaming will never get me anywhere and to pay attention. I think they have underestimated the value of daydreaming. Looking back and being the oppositional defiant rebel I had become, I have come to the realization that maybe I wanted to prove them wrong. "So, if you ask me if I daydream during my job, I will tell you that daydreaming is my job." Wendy and her husband traveled extensively buying antiques and art for their business that sold to interior designers. After raising 4 children with her husband and traveling for years. They finally settled in Port Townsend Washington. Some people look at Wendy’s images and think they are paintings or prints of paintings. They are not paintings nor prints of paintings. Her only tools are a camera, computer, printer, and her daydreams. Her art is an escape from the noise and craziness emanating from the outside world. "It is my sanctuary". "I make art that pleases me and that I want to live with, something that brings my daydreams to life.”
