About The Artwork

"Adjusting the Ohashori" is a self-portrait of the artist busily adjusting her kimono, unaware of the viewer. A reflective portrait, the fading facial features convey the artist's sense of disembodiment from the garment she wears - the kimono is the main focus of this piece. The intricate folds of varying sizes also contrast greatly to the traditional image of neat and tidy diagonal kimono collar lines, the cropping of the image making the viewer a voyeur.
