Alive in Awakening Drawing

This series was inspired by recovery in patients during my practice as a medical consultant in Mumbai, India (2007-2016). The process of this portrait was amid a time when I was working as a medical student in the paediatric ward of the V.N.Desai Government Hospital. The child recovered from a particularly severe bout of cholera, after almost passing over to a state that was difficult to revive. While only six, she spoke of her recovery vividly in words that transcended time and came from the deeper realm of the human spirit. I found myself moved to be part of this experience and sketched a likeness of her, if only to hold and maybe cherish that moment for the years that followed. Five prints in total of this work are available on canvas and rag-pulp Auro-paper. The main intention of this series is to inspire the walls of hospitals, nursing homes and research institutes. Other collectors are welcome.
