Alone in the dark Drawing

Skulls are one of my favourite objects to draw and it is not unusual for me work the image of a skull somewhere within each piece I create. Another reoccurring symbol is that of the table acting like a partition between the dark and the light, the conscious and the unconscious, the living and the dead. In this work the two are once again brought together. But there is no inclusion or contrasting with the corporeal world above. Down beneath the table the skull sits on the bare floor, forgotten in the dark, lost from the view above. This is the pure desolation of death. The loss of self, the loss of identity, the loss of consciousness.
