About The Artwork

My drawing expression is inspired by the intricate bas-reliefs of the Banteay Samre temple at Angkor, Cambodia, particularly those depicting the Asura and buffalo. These ancient carvings which have withstood the test of time, are a testament to the remarkable skill and creativity of the Khmer people. Through my art , I seek to capture the essence of these powerful and evocative images, bringing them to life in a new and vibrant way. I am drawn to the dynamic energy of the Asura, with their fierce expressions and muscular bodies as well as the quiet strength of the buffalo, which is a symbol of resilience and endurance. As I draw, I am constantly exploring the intricate details and textures of the bas-reliefs, seeking to recreate the sense of depth and dimensionality that is characteristic of this art form. I am also inspired by the rich colours and patterns that are often found in Khmer art, which I incorporate into my work in a way that is both authentic and contemporary. Through my art, I hope to honor the legacy of the Khmer people and to celebrate the enduring power of their artistic traditions. I believe that art has the power to transcend time and place, connecting us to the past while also inspiring us to imagine new possibilities for the future. Ultimately, my goal is to create a sense of wonder and awe in viewers of my work, inviting them to explore the rich cultural heritage of Cambodia and to appreciate the beauty and complexity of this remarkable art form.
