ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Through a painstakingly repetitive and labour intensive process, Demi creates stark, sculptural works on paper, exploring the act of drawing and mark making in their most fundamental form. She embeds the marks within the surface, exposing them like scars as she pushes and tests the materiality and delicacy of the paper. Aiming to investigate and test the patterns and forms within the natural world; seeking out and locating remote aerial landscapes, her work takes the viewer into a vision of the unknown, forcing us to confront our own fragility and limits of perception.

b. 1991 Nottingham, UK Demi creates sculptural works on paper as she explores drawing and mark making using pinpricking, sewing and painting. She uses her experience of landscape as her starting point, inspired by maps and aerial imagery focusing on stark areas such as mountains, canyons and deserts and translating them into her own minimal abstract language. The work intentionally slows the creative process down to inspire a meditative practice as the visual information is paired down to a minimum, hinting at features found within nature.
