About the Artist

Gerard Whyman

United Kingdom

I have worked as an artist and illustrator for over 30 years but for a considerable amount of that time I freelanced mainly as a cartoonist, producing 'gag' cartoons for the likes of Punch, Reader's Digest, Private Eye among many other titles including working for over 17 years as the weekly cartoonist for the trade magazine to the UK's bus and coach operators' market, 'RouteOne'.

I always maintained an interest in painting and drawing during those years and since the cartooning aspect of my career has waned in recent times, I have been trying to promote myself as an artist and have painted and drawn buildings, life drawings, landscapes, still lifes as well as paintings with a humorous twist.

I like to work in a variety of mediums, acrylics, alkyds, oils, watercolurs, pastels and pencil but I am particularly drawn to pen and ink, I think a background in illustration and cartooning largely accounts for that.

I work in a variety of styles and to date have never settled on just one style which can be perplexing to some people (it perplexes me at times!), I am always striving to develop myself as an artist and every piece of work I see as a challenge, to me there is no other way!
