Chopper Drawing

In my process I seek to employ an expressive language that initiates emotional associations and stories. The most effective and efficient communication of this energy is directly by hand to paper, with very little preparation or deliberation. The edges of the paper alone provide sufficient boundaries for the marks to push against, and in this space unique stories and subjects can slowly or quickly emerge. This drawing is a helicopter, or "chopper" for short. It is more about the crazy dynamic whirlwind of chaos created by the blades which are somehow able to lift the hunk of steel off of the ground. I like how the heaviness of the chopper is balanced by the airy swirling of marks above it. It makes me contrast our effective but heavy aerial designs with those of bees and dragonflies.
