On April 20th, 1999, Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris, students at Columbine high school in Columbine, Colorado entered the school and began shooting. They killed 12 students and one teacher and injured many others. Their act shocked the nation and the world. Media coverage lasted for weeks. This image depicts a still from the security camera in the cafeteria just moments before the two seniors committed suicide. The small physical scale of these drawings is meant to bring attention to the grand scale of these events, both physically and in their lasting impressions on our national psychology. There are a few defining moments in each generation’s collective memory that we all remember, the bombing of Pearl Harbor, the assassination of President Kennedy, 9/11. These drawings explore that national collective experience in small meditative vignettes.
