(De)Contextualisation Drawing

'(De)Contextualisation' considers the notion of traditional artwork creation in the context of contemporary image culture. Situating himself as human printer, Sherington, in technical pen, reproduces an image as opposed to a scene. Selectively removing facets from the source, Sherington elicits a representational tension through his denial of the full image. Contemporary image culture, so often providing the audience with the fully realised image, is exploited and the resultant implores the audience to engage in the act of looking. Through this abstraction of the image, Sherington considers the notions of originality, and engages in a metaphysical transformation of the image, converting the intangible digital to the physical.
