About The Artwork
Coloured pen and pencil work, a bit old but still a personal favourite. The symbolism is complex. The creature is Deviancy, he cannot be killed (represented by the knife in the arm). He longs to venture into the world of self knowledge with the hope of surpassing his failings (the door leading into the eye). He also fears self knowledge, so he hesitates outside the door. Through the self knowledge he must admit his problems which is why he waits. The stairs show his years of wickedness, but as time passed, he became less wicked, which is why the cracks become lessened toward where he is sitting. The coloured bubbles are memories tainted and bruised. The door, stairs, and Deviancy are slanted, because he is not perfect and cannot be perfect.
