About The Artwork

'Portugal Series' is a collection of 4 drawings and 2 paintings that tell a story of unsuccessful relationship between a man and a woman. Through a summer holiday in Portugal it confronts the issues that the couple encountered during their 11-month long love affair. The 'Series' serves as an engaging narrative where viewers are encouraged to read short description and listen to a song that has been carefully chosen to accompany each piece. By doing so it invites questions how it all ties in together with the artwork itself. PORTUGAL SERIES 2/6 'I couldn't name songs by their melodies, I skimmed through the news, I didn't remember quotes from famous movies, I playfully confused national flags. I woke up early. I went to bed early. I was always hungry and I was terrible at throwing Frisbee on the beach. I still wanted to play.' Song: 'I'll be Your Woman' by St Paul & The Broken Bones

Playing with ideas, dreams, forms of expression and personal experiences is what Michaela is intrigued by. How deep can a person go in their work so the message it sends is clear to the viewer but at the same time it encourages questions and thoughts that yet have not been analysed? Michaela's inquisitive nature stands at the forefront of her creative acts that invites to inquire into one's own views. Why do you see leaves when what is drawn or painted is supposed to represent life hurdles and how they're overcome? Michaela in her work opens the door to endless possibilities and challenges that we encounter every day but don't necessarily realise or acknowledge and thus invites to explore the world of imagination beyond its boundaries.
