I have always been intrigued by how children can cry one minute and laugh the next. Being a mother of two, I have watched my kids move from tears to giggles to peals of laughter in a matter of seconds and all it took was a joke or tickle, sometimes a butterfly or maybe even a chocolate. I'd watch how their teary eyes would light up suddenly and all would be forgotten. They forgive and forget everything and are lost in their new discovery. It is this purity and innocence that I wish to portray with this drawing. The picture portrays an orphan boy who is crying. He is probably lost or is hungry and cold. But when he sees the bubble, he forgets his misery and is mesmerized by it. Watch how he tries to catch the bubble, a small smile playing at his lips as tears still run down his cheek. As we age, we become cynical and wary of everything around us. We seem to have lost that innocence but we only have to look at these children to know that there is still goodness and purity in this world. There is still hope.
