About The Artwork

The paper is glued on wood. This wood is fetched on a bigger wooden plate and than there is a wooden frame. The plate and frame are painted in nice creamwhite color. Every day I make my walk in the nature of my surrounding. And of course it often rains but that does not keep me from walking. In this painting it is summertime and early in the morning. The sun just rises and gives beatifull colors. When I draw and paint about it my fantasy leads me to these snails. People and animals inspire me, I study their moves, their doing nothing, their communication and make sketches and photo's of them. Nature also inspires me: its space, its structures. My subjects find themselves in a invented situation or landscape. The colors I choose are important to the atmosphere of the painting. I hope that others will feel good seeing my drawings and paintings

Monique van Stokkum (1952) is a Dutch artist. Currently she makes drawings. THE DELICATE LINE Since 2015 I make drawings again. In the beginning of my artist careeer I started with drawing (ca. 1975), then a period of painting followed . And now I'm back to my old love. The directness, grim, tenderness and strength of the drawing. THEME Of course I am touched by what is happening in the world. In my work I do not react literally on the world news. Yet it is about universal themes in which people can recognize themselves. The viewer looks for elements of life. My work gets meaning through their associations and fantasies. Landscapes, animals and people are my sources of inspiration. Not strange for someone who is born and raised in the woods. I can now say that the death of my son (2005) brought about major changes in my work. Now, after more than 10 years, I feel the space again which was not there for a long time. Since 2013 I make my Objects to Remember. Large and small painted objects in wich memories may be stored. Works of art with an extra personal significance.
