Dan Arcus

About the Artist

Dan Arcus

Belgium

Dan Arcus is a Romanian-born visual artist based in Brussels whose work moves between figurative painting, surrealism and contemporary mythology.

His practice explores the relationship between reality and the stories people construct around it. Drawing from mythology, psychology, social behaviour, technology and popular culture, he creates images in which familiar figures inhabit improbable situations—sometimes playful, sometimes unsettling.

Recurring themes include curiosity, power, belief, memory, identity and the human desire to understand or control forces larger than ourselves. Recent work increasingly examines technological evolution, artificial intelligence and the new mythologies forming around humanity’s attempt to extend or transcend its own limits.

Arcus works primarily in oil, pastel, charcoal and drawing, combining traditional figurative techniques with contemporary imagery and open-ended narratives.

His work has been exhibited internationally and is held in more than 150 private collections worldwide.
