About The Artwork

It's not technically a drawing, it's kind of experimental technique that I call "batique on paper". I claim that no other artist beside me have ever used this technique for icons, it's kind of my invention. During my graphic experiments I've found out that this technique gives a very interesting "antique" effect. What's aslo fascinating about batique on paper is that you never know if the work is successful until the last moment, when you have all black piece of paper and you begin to wash it with water and sponge. So the final result is either a big succes or a big failure. This work "Madonna" is inspired by Russian icons. We see Virgin Mary with traditionally sad face. Her look is fool of mother's worryness and maybe even sorrow. She looks directly into our heart and can't leave anybody indifferent. The work comes in a box, signed on the back and with the certificate of authenticity.

Hanna claims that traditional art is the best way to affect our mental condition, to help us feel like humans again. Her artworks are about our emotional life and inner world of views, fears, hopes and believes. Her painitngs are full of symbols, metaphors, spiritual references and hidden meanings. Borowska paints the world around us as a reflection of our psychological condition.
