Memory As A Room Drawing

The series Memory As A Room is the re-telling of a singular event in my life, pregnancy, loss, near death experience and recovery. Using my own body’s narrative, the drawings explore memories, dreams and the paranormal. In revisiting my body’s history, I depict a woman in a bird mask, sometimes in a birdlike costume. The bird symbolically encapsulates notions of transcendence, rebirth and mortality. The drawings are set within a Dionysian landscape that seeks to affirm life, whether it is pain, pleasure, suffering or joy and where fragments of my dreams are depicted, weaving a narrative of my subconscious mind. By embracing the chaos and savagery of my story I seek its rational balance, emphasizing the harmony that can be found within this seemingly chaotic experience. On a molecular level Memory As A Room resurrects and rebuilds my narrative, in order to make peace with it. .
