This editorial cartoon lampoons the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, juxtaposed against current GBP / USD foreign exchange news. On July 5, 2010, BP stated that their one-day effort to recover oil was relative to about 25,000 barrels (4,000 m3) of leaked oil, and the natural gas escape of 57.1 million cubic feet (1.62×106 m3). The entire collection of oil to date related to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill was thought to be about 660,000 barrels (105,000 m3). U.S. Government estimates implied that the wellhead cap and additional gear were containing under 50% of the spilling oil in late June 2010. On July 10 the wellhead cap container was taken out and replaced by a cap consisting of a 3 Ram Stack ("Top Hat Number 10") and a Flange Transition Spool which fit better. On July 15, BP put the well integrity to the test by closing pipes that had funneled leaked oil to the Gulf's surface. At that time, the well's full force pushed against the cap. The well's cap was determined to be a success. Cement mixed with mud was later injected in via the well's top, in order to lower the internal pressure. This completed the temporary efforts to plug the leak.
