About The Artwork

This drawing is a part of a series of drawings developed around the idea of the iconic white sail forms of the Sydney Opera House and their juxtaposition to the glass, steel and concrete that wavers between carrying, and being carried by the sails. The drawing has a white boarder around it 25mm on the top and sides and 28mm on the bottom edge. The drawing is unframed and posted flat. I also sell limited edition prints of 100. They are museum quality pigment prints on acid free cotton rag fine art paper, 300 gsm. The prints are sold through www.jessicabwatson.com

Textiles, Drawing and the Built Environment My work in the field of Architecture has brought me back to basics, putting pencil to paper, exploring space and the sculptural object. My work explores the idea of cultural identity and interaction in the public and private realm. As individuals and societies the idea of what is public or private is increasingly blurred. It is this space, the merging / overlapping of public and private, that I am interested in. I have been exploring the idea of Identity through textiles for around twenty years. Between 1996 and 2011 I lived in Sweden, where I completed my studies in Textile Art at Gothenburg University. Since returning to Sydney in 2011 via a year-long Artists’ Residency at Rimbun Dahan, Malaysia, I have held a solo exhibition at Tamworth Regional Gallery, undertaken a three-month Artists' Residency at Eramboo in Terry Hills and in 2016 began Architectural studies. Since receiving my Bachelor of Architecture, I have been exploring the Idea of Public and Private space through drawing and embroidery.
