About The Artwork

2014 frame by frame hand-drawn animation consisting of 54 frames The subject of the animation is inspired by the greek myth of Marsyas, the satyr wich challenged Apollo in a flute contest. As a result of loosing the contest he was flayed alive by Apollo and made an example of justice by his punishment. The whole punishment is a consequence of hubris (ὕβρις - extreme pride or dangerous overconfidence). Here the left hand stands as a representation of Apollo in opposition with the right hand, representing Marsyas. The action of flaying can be seen in the removal of the glove.
