About The Artwork

"Reflections" pencil drawing displays a chrome percolator with mirror image of the artist's paper, pencil and hand. "Reflections" includes three symbols of internal reflection. First, the percolator's chrome displays the artist's pencil, hand and arm, while drawing a bottle of perfume. With physical mirrors we usually contemplate how we appear. The chrome mirror-like reflection represents contemplation. Second, many people enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning while pondering yesterday's activity and plans for the day. The coffee pot represents thoughtful, restful, consideration. Third, the old fashioned electric percolator represents the past. Most modern households make coffee with Keurig or electric coffee pots. The old style percolator represents nostalgic thoughts of the past.

Inspiration for most of my paintings comes from God, as everything including nature, wildlife, plants and animals, flow from Him. Most of my artwork's created with oil paint on canvas. Some older paintings were prepared with gouache, watercolor and airbrush. My styles range from realism to surrealism, with a current focus on photorealism. I prefer realism because it conveys topics best, especially concepts or narratives. Most people understand representational images that tell a story. Ideally the mood, emotion and general concept of a painting sets the tone quickly. It's my understanding that our subconscious minds process images before we begin logical analysis. With fine art, hopefully the title and artist's statement add to the initial impression. My career in illustration began with digital images, including televised cartoon background art and news graphics. Work with computer generated imagery lead to an interest in software development. After completing a degree majoring in computer science, I worked as a software developer for the stock market. However I have always loved art. Recent software projects integrate 3D digital graphics with 3D software development. Many combinations reveal opportunities to create unique artwork either in digital format or oil paint on canvas. Yet I also paint from photographs and reality. I've studied art and painted most of my life. My father used to say, it seemed like I was born with a paintbrush in my hand. Interest in illustration flows from love of nature, wildlife, plants, animals, technology and scripture. I completed degrees majoring in Studio Art and Technical Illustration yet have not publicly promoted paintings until recently.
