About The Artwork

Roundism – 27-10-20 Just Abstract Last model session resulted in a nice pose through which I was inspired to continue my roundism series. The general idea was to build up the posture out of essential geometric forms again but make it appear to look realistic or should I say just abstract. This results in a less abstract one such as Roundism – 22-09-20 and the realistic look almost is a reference to the principles of ambiguous image as explained in my description of Gaia – 16-03-16. My pleasure and game is to make the spectator enjoy the plasticity of an attractive body and the sensual geometrical forms at the same time. Communication Next to this, in this posture my model was smiling and communicating with me. It happens when I start to shoot with the camera or draw. I am a lucky guy because I can have a lengthy discussion while concentrating on the drawing at the same time. We talk about postures, themes but also about general things, Covid, Trump and all things art related. The side-effect is that it makes her rexaled and her body positions look express such. Therefor, this one looks enchanting, almost inviting to the viewer. Chiaroscuro In like manner of the last drawing The Cat – 23-10-20 this one is guirded with heavy doses of chiaroscuro (clairobscur), especially in the body. This way I thought the body forms would show a nice firm contrast with the softer folds of the bed sheets. Graphite pencil drawing (Sakura 0.5 mm, Pentel 4B) on Winsor & Newton Bristol paper (21 x 29.7 x 0.1 cm) - A4 format) Artist: Corné Akkers

1969, born in Nijmegen. My work can be seen in many countries all over the world. Corné employs a variety of styles that all have one thing in common: the ever search for the light on phenomena and all the shadows and light planes they block in. His favorites in doing so are oil paint, dry pastel and graphite pencil. He states that it’s not the form or the theme that counts but the way planes of certain tonal quality vary and block in the lights. Colours are relatively unimportant and can take on whatever scheme. It’s the tonal quality that is ever present in his work, creating the illusion of depth and mass on a flat 2d-plane. Corné combines figurative work with the search for abstraction because neither in extremo can provide the desired art statement the public expects from an artist. Besides all that, exaggeration and deviation is the standard and results in a typical use of a strong colour scheme and a hugh tonal bandwith, in order to create art that, when the canvas or paper would be torn into pieces, in essence still would be recognizable.
