“It’s great to be alive!” exclaims alto saxophonist Frank Morgan, a man often at cross-purpose with himself, who despite habitual lotus-eating miraculously kept his blossom above the muck. Frank and I were living at my parent's house in Los Angeles during the 1984 Summer Olympic Games. We laid low and ran the sprinklers a lot to stay cool. You might enjoy the documentary produced by crime fiction writer Michael Connelly "Sound Of Redemption, The Frank Morgan Story" in which I play my small but significant part. My e-book Leave 'Em Hungry, A Love Story And Cautionary Tale is available on Amazon and recounts my long, operatic relationship with Frank Morgan starting in 1978. We will be celebrating Frank Morgan at the Trinity Jazz Festival in Houston, January 25-28, 2018. I will be giving away the American Composer Series posters of Coltrane, Mingus and Monk. See you there!

NOW'S THE TIME to collect a piece or two as I am prunning prices down to the bare branches. I have five works preserved in the Bank Of America Collection: four drawings and a shaped paper painting like many you will see on this site. I offer large, dramatic and mysterious works, rich in detail, that catch the eye from across the street and entertain at very close range. A simple frameless, plexiglass treatment works best so the shape floats freely. The large pieces are shipped rolled on a large diameter core in a padded custom box. Each new series shoots for a re-shuffling of the psychic deck. There are several currents that run consistently through my work, one carries the question, "What does it mean to be a human being?" I identify Universal Human Foibles; explore the anatomy/physiology of body and mind; ponder our evolution. In 2014 I published "Leave 'Em Hungry, A Love Story and Cautionary Tale," a deeply personal recounting shot through with the heartbreak of addiction and codependency, about my life with the late jazz saxophonist Frank Morgan. "Sound of Redemption, The Frank Morgan Story" a documentary produced by crime fiction writer Michael Connelly, in which I play my significant part, is available for veiwing on multiple platforms. My earliest "morality," you might say, was shaped by grand opera and musical theater. My knowledge of the American Songbook prepared me for my appreciation of the jewel in the crown of American culture, which I discovered quite by chance: I stumbled upon John Coltrane playing "My Favorite Things."
