About The Artwork

On a quest to discover self-discipline and mastery of my craft, I have been intrigued by the Stoics. The philosophers have much to teach our modern age. Socrates is heroic in my mind for his questioning of authority and encouragement of young minds to question everything in order to discover the truth. I have the video timelapse of this work on my YouTube channel. My hope is the original will be purchased by someone who appreciates the hours poured into this creation. Charcoal and pastel on toned paper imported from France make up the elements of this Socrates' original portrait art. It is left unfinished (not sprayed with a fixative) and must be handled carefully by your framer upon arrival.

I am grateful to make my artwork to collectors who appreciate the value of original works of art. Obsessed with art from the age of 4, I remember picking up a crayon with my left hand and loving the process of coloring the thin gray pages of my first coloring book. I feel the beauty of this world by immersion in nature and frequently visiting art museums to energetically absorb the greatness of previous artists from all genres and eras. Driven by a love of country and the ephemeral quality of this precious life, I began to illustrate portraits of those I wanted to honor. With heroes such as Emerson, Thoreau, Socrates, and the writings of C.S. Lewis, I began to protect and harness the inner voice that urged the following of one’s own path. Years of intense study of art history combined with art training have produced numerous portraits that honor my "why": Tenacity, hard work, honor, and excellence, These core values are infused into every project I undertake.
