Strange People & Unexpected Circumstances Drawing

“Strange People & Unexpected Circumstances” is a multi-layered work, slipping from an eye that would capture it as a whole in a single glance. Inspired by Louis Ferdinand Celine and Flannery O’Connor, it uses ethos of their texts as a prism through which it possible to understand eschatological aspirations and fears of the modern human community. In the artwork’s coordinates, this community consists of misfits, exalted fanatics and silent shocked observers. Through blurred forms and bright colours, it transmits chaotic atmosphere akin to paintings depicting ancient catastrophes, like the “The Last Day of Pompeii” or Böcklin’s “Plague” . And, at the same time, solitude of certain objects and persons, their distorted bodies that refer to Munch and Bacon, as well as silent, yet strained portraits in the tradition of Luc Tuymans. It is a note on the margins of different meetings and observed scenes, a premonition of new decadence.
