To quote one of my favorite songs "Just a Man" by Faith No More "Man was born to love, though often he has sought like Icarus to fly too high and far too lonely than he ought. To kiss the sun of east and west, to hold the world at his behest. To hold a terrible power, to whom only gods are blessed, but me, I am just a man." This painting was a contemporary take on the story of Icarus. Is the man pictured taking flight? or is his ability to fly being taken from him? I guess that is a matter of perspective...
