Olivier ROCHEAU works on a vocabulary that is his own, very personal, at the same time that it is familiar to us, because he draws on the codes of art history. This language powerfully "spits out" colors and spectacular shapes, often abstract, but paradoxically these works deploy a soothing universe, of an obviousness and an incredible force,... He seeks to constantly renew himself while building this universe where aesthetics reign supreme. This print continues the series "homage" to Marc Rothko but for some years the desire to "destroy" or "deconstruct" its forms has become more precise: grains, stains, hatching, take place in the composition and break the initial language. This is an engraving on paper. Each engraving is printed manually in the workshop on a white Arches Velin BFK Rives paper (fine and light grain). This acid and brightener free paper is 100% cotton. The weight chosen varies between 180gr and 300gr. This engraving work is printed either as a single print or as a multiple proof in a very limited edition (generally 8 copies.) The works are then numbered and signed. An embossing stamp also authenticates each work.

Olivier Rocheau was born in 1975 in La Rochelle. Visual artist, his work is already recognized and has been rewarded by numerous exhibitions / installations (in France and Germany), prizes and commissions (private / public). His works, immediately recognizable, out of the ordinary, colorful, generous offer different levels of reading and always give off a very strong feeling... They question materials and colors between abstraction and aesthetics... This spontaneous writing, which plays with the codes of childhood, paradoxically reveals an accomplished, sophisticated, rigorous universe. The artist shapes, sets up, via a particular vocabulary, an architecture, a framework, in their strictest destitution... Between asceticism and flamboyance, a coherent, always renewed “world” that takes shape between graphic work and installation.
