This piece is one work from Cline's "Torso" series, in which she arranges various images and shapes to suggest the female body. The stamped or painted images Cline incorporates are often symbolic and are connotations of femininity or womanhood. The piece's background is a scattered melange of pink, orange, yellow, and green splotches. Various leaves, swirls, and berry foliage, all highlighted with glitter, line the edges of the piece and create the general outline of a woman's torso. In the center, a spine is created using a verticle stack of blue rectangular shapes that slightly lean to the left. In addition to the curves and contours created by the peripheral foliage, the centrality of the spine is important, as it visually aids the viewer in locating different aspects of the body. Two spiral shells flan either side of the spine, located on either side of the chest to suggest breasts. Both are lined in blue glitter that pops against the pink and golden amorphous swaths of acrylic paint. Directly below the spine, Cline inserts a beetle, which stretches its arms outward to grasp the bottom-most vertebrae. It's not clear whether the beetle is part of the spinal column or a different portion of the body. Still, the proximity and location visually move the viewer's eyes down the body. Finally, a small flower rises from the bottom edge of the paper, with green glitter climbing up the stem. The flower's head sits in between the back two limbs as if it is being held up. Most of the elements in the torso connect to various aspects of womanhood. The foliage and plant matter at the periphery are common motifs in Cline's work, connoting beauty, purity, and feminine virtue. The beetle, and small blooming flower, positioned near the woman's pelvis, might reference motherhood.
